We have already been given what is necessary to decide whether to believe in God
I was reading the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. You can read the full parable in Matthew 16: 19-31. There, a rich man who feasted each day did not share even scraps with a poor man called Lazarus who was hungry. They eventually both died, and the poor man went to heaven and the rich man to Hades (hell).
There, the rich man was in agony and asked Abraham in heaven to relieve him, but Abraham said there was a great chasm between the two places so it was not possible. Then the rich man pleaded to Abraham to at least send Lazarus to the rich man's father's house to warn his five brothers so that they would not wind up in hell. Let's examine what happens next:
Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them.’ He said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Matthew 16: 29-31
Abraham is saying that all of the information that is necessary to decide whether or not you believe in God, has already been given to us in the form of the Bible and the prophets.
Recall also, that this parable was being told by Jesus, so it is before his death. Therefore, in the choice of whether or not to follow God, sufficient information has been given to us even before Jesus's death and resurrection.
Furthermore, this passage forewarns us that even divine events such as Jesus's death and resurrection will not be believed by those who are determined not to listen: "... neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead."
Just as then, there are today those who do not believe, even though Jesus has indeed risen from the dead. Yet, as illustrated in the parable above, the information we have been given is sufficient to decide whether to believe in God. We should not expect to get any additional chances. We have the Bible, which these days is easily accessible to everyone. We should read it.
Praying and talking with God is also an option we have available to us. By praying, I do not mean presenting Him with a list of requests. I mean praying in a way of showing him that we truly want to know who He is, and that we want to hear from Him. He will reveal Himself somehow (even if it's in an unexpected way) to those who are truly seeking Him.
